Hazelnuts in bloom

Filberts bloom in January. See those tiny red protrusions at the ends of the buds?They are the flowers. The long things on the right are called catkins, they produce the pollen. Although  hazelnuts are Monoecious  they do not self pollinate.

A better baguette

Inspired by the Tartine bread and Ken Forkish's artisan bakery, I cut a piece of pipe in half and welded some ends on it. It also has a metal screen on one half. It baked a perfect baguette!

This baguette was 400 g of flour at 75% hydration one and a half percent salt and dash of  Braggs vinegar.
Preheat the oven and the mold for 20 minutes at 450. Put dough in and close up the mold, bake 20 minutes at 450. Uncover the mold and continue to bake bread uncovered for 20 minutes at 450
Voila!

Cheese vat

I saw some ideas here and here on the net and got inspired. I want to take my cheese to another level.

I got some parts for a temperature controller and a 22quart turkey roaster to build a Cheese vat.
The parts consist of:
A project box, a mypin TA4 pid unit, a solid state relay, and a couple of things from the hardware store; a spst switch, a female 110v outlert, short extension cord, and some wirenuts.
The roaster was 42 bucks and the rest was about $60. $100for a 4 gallon cheese vat, killer!

Prices change on amazon all the time so you should shop around for the same item. When I was writing this the roaster cost 118 bucks and I got it for 42...

Wired it up and filled the roaster with water and put the ta4 in autotune.
That took a long time.

This thing has a lot of potential. A straight up turkey roaster, yogurt maker, cheese vat, proofing cabinet. I'm stoked!

Got a lathe


I decided to make a carbide turning tool.
I drilled a quarter inch hole in the end of a piece of square stock that would fit a quarter inch router bit. I tapped some  set screw holes. I then routed a wooden handle. I then stuck it together.

tDCS


Using Jeff Vier's ideas. I built a small trans cranial direct current stimulation device. It runs on a 9 V battery and delivers less then 2 mA of current. I uploaded Jeff's schematic from github to 0SH park and received my PCB's a couple of weeks later. The rest of the stuff I ordered from Mauser and Digikey. Now that I have built it I need to read up on how best to use it.
